Find Your Ideal Fit

All Powell Craft nightgowns are cut loose and easy like old-fashioned nightdresses. Measurements are taken laid flat, so lay a favorite gown of yours on the bed and compare.

For reference, Tori is wearing them in every photo. She's a 38″ bust, 28″ waist, and 34″ hip, usually a modern 4 to 6, and has worn these gowns at many different sizes over the years.

Made to order means all sales are final, so this table is here to make sure you order once and love it. If yours arrives damaged or we've made a mistake, email us a photo within 14 days and we'll make it right.

Everyone in my life knows I'm a nightgown devotee.

These are made by Powell Craft, a small family business in the UK that has been sewing cotton nightwear by hand since 1962. I've worn them since 2020, and enough people have asked where to get one that we're finally carrying them.

They're cool and breezy enough to sleep in, comfortable enough to spend an entire slow morning wearing, and pretty enough that if you suddenly have to leave the house, you can throw on a belt, boots or some jewelry and pretend the whole thing was intentional.

Each purchase supports two small family businesses at once, and helps us keep thoughtfully made pieces like these in our little corner of Tennessee.

The details

Made the slow way, meant to last.

100% crisp cotton

Breathable for warm sleepers, substantial enough for winter under a quilt. Softens nicely with every wash.

Vintage details, done by hand

Broderie anglaise, embroidered cutwork, fine pin-tucks, buttons with loops. The things fast fashion skips.

Easy care

Machine wash cool (30°C/86°F). Skip bleach and harsh detergents, and check the garment tag.

A note on the price. Our $88 is a wee bit higher than ordering directly from the maker, and we'd rather just tell you why: importing into the US comes with duties and tariffs (about 20%, collected after delivery if you order from the UK yourself). Ordering wholesale lets us absorb some of that, and we've spent a ridiculous amount of time photographing and measuring so you can choose with confidence.

Questions about our nightgowns

Ask us anything.

Still unsure? Email us and a real person on the homestead will write you back.

How do I know which one will fit me?

Our nightgowns are free size, cut loose and easy like old-fashioned nightdresses. Every listing shows the pit-to-pit width (or bust panel on Betty), the length, and the largest US and UK size it fits. Measurements are taken laid flat, so the easiest way to check is to lay a favorite gown of yours on the bed and compare. Jodie is the roomiest and fits up to a US 16 (UK 20), while Pearl and Margo are cut closer, up to a US 10 (UK 14). Tori is wearing them in the photos, and her measurements are on each listing too.

What does made to order mean?

Your nightgown is made after you order it, so it takes a little longer to reach you than our apothecary goods. We'll email you tracking as soon as it's on its way.

Will it ship with the rest of my order?

It may not. Because nightgowns are made to order, they can ship separately from anything else in your cart.

Can I return or exchange it if it doesn't fit?

All nightgown sales are final, so please check the measurements before ordering. If yours arrives damaged or we've made a mistake, email us a photo within 14 days of delivery and we'll make it right.

How do I care for it?

Machine wash cool (30°C/86°F) and skip bleach and harsh detergents. Check the garment tag for any specific care. The cotton softens nicely over time.

Is Jodie good for nursing?

Yes. The button front opens easily for nursing, and the full cut is comfortable through pregnancy and postpartum.

Which nightgown styles are available?

All nightgowns are $88 and made from 100% cotton.
