Muddy Roots Switchel concentrate, or “haymakers punch” as its also often called. What is it? This is one of those remedies that folks haven’t always considered to be herbal medicine but it always was. And its intended purpose has always been to help balance the body (ahemm energetics).
We’ve seen variations of this beverage all over the world, pre 1600s. Used by all the replenish vitamins and minerals in the mid summer heat. Especially enjoyed by farmers, haymakers & sharecroppers.
I remember my first sip. I knew it would be a summer favorite for the rest of my life. I felt my ancestors nod. But of course i had to embellish this recipe. This root beer tasting concentrate is absolutely divine and just brings you back to life when the height of the heat of the day just about takes you down. Its a summer version of our black nettle iron syrup! In that it loads you up with vitamins, minerals and enzymes while supporting maximum absorption.

Now traditionally you make this recipe to your liking with a gallon of water. The reason i made a concentrate is because id make a jug and waste half of it (well, i gave it to my chickens but still!). So as far as the instructions for this go, start with a quick pour into your water vessel, top with water and either add more Muddy Roots or more water to your taste preference!
Start with 1 tsp to 8oz beverage of choice. Delicious over water, sparkling water or in a mocktail!
