The inspiration for this illustration was those first signs of the Earth defrosting post deep winter. When the days show signs of warmth but the nights bring crisp air and rain. Those few weeks where you swell with excitement and anxiety for what’s to come. You start turning the soil to find the snakes are searching for their nesting grounds, Jack n the Pulpit and Trillium are beginning to bloom. You scan the ground for the elusive Morel mushroom or Antler shed. The sap is dripping and the days are getting long enough to cook supper over the maple syrup fire. Time goes by so fast it feels like there’s a full moon above you every week and you are counting down the days for the last frost to sew the seeds that will kiss your lips in the summertime.
It is my hope that these altar cloths will support this season of transition for you wether on your altar, or worn around your neck. To me, this illustration portrays the duality of early Spring. The signs on sunny days, but still some cold, dark days that pull you right back into winter feels.
